South Korean shipbuilders are poised to secure up to 13 very large gas carrier (VLGC) newbuildings from Chinese-related companies, with the majority of the vessels lined up for charter to Chinese LPG importer Oriental Energy.

Shipbuilding players say three separate companies have inked letters of intent (LOI) with DSME and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the vessels to be delivered by the end of 2016.
