Alexander Oetker’s private shipowning firm, AO Schiffahrt, has quietly moved back into the panamax bulker field and is now looking to build a fleet of supramax and kamsarmax vessels.
Oetker is inspecting modern eco-vessels that can be bought at the same time as negotiating long-term charters, after ordering two ultramaxes at Imabari Shipbuilding last year. The pair of 61,000-dwt I-Star ships will be chartered to Denmark’s Ultrabulk when delivered in the first half of 2015.
