Irrawaddy Flotilla Co — a UK-owned, Myanmar-based operator — announced this week it had acquired the 500-gt cruiseship TO Callisto (built 1963) from Blue Sea Line Shipping of Greece.
The vessel, with capacity for just 34 passengers, is deemed the ideal size to run luxury expedition cruises along Myanmar’s relatively undeveloped coastline.
The country’s lack of tourist infrastructure at coastal ports still precludes larger cruiseships from calling at harbours outside of Yangon.
