The Danish shipping giant’s Maersk Line Limited (MLL) subsidiary has asked the federal court in downtown New York for exoneration or limitation of liability to $9.28m.
District Judge John Keenan has approved the limitation amount, although it can be challenged further down the road.
MLL’s lawsuit follows legal action in the same court by Zahia Saleh, the widow of US mariner Khaled Munassar.
