Seaspan settles for meagre long-term rate for quartet of post-panamax newbuildings

Seaspan Corp, the world’s biggest independent boxship owner, has had to swallow a hefty cut in rates to secure long-term hires for a series of new post-panamax boxships, according to sources.

Maersk Line is being linked to four 10,000-teu vessels taken on charter from Seaspan at a knock-down rate.

The four SAVER-design vessels are believed to have been fixed to the Danish operator for just $35,000 per day for the period, say sources.
