John Angelicoussis-led Maran Tankers has walked away from talks with Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering to build four suezmaxes and is negotiating again with its traditionally preferred shipbuilder, DSME, industry sources say.

Last week, TradeWinds reported that the Greek owner was set to desert DSME, as Tongyeong-based Sungdong had offered a better price.

But it is now understood that the talks with Sungdong have hit an impasse and that Maran is negotiating with DSME’s Romanian facility, Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries.
