Oslo-based investment company Maritime Opportunities (MO) has added two distressed bulkers to its fleet while cancelling a pair of newbuildings.

It has bought from German banks two supramaxes, which were owned by KG (limited partnership) companies.

The 57,000-dwt Emerald Strait and Endeavour Strait (both built 2010) are said to have cost $22m to $23m each. They were delivered from Sanfu Shipbuilding.

MO chief executive Per Olav Karlsen confirms the purchase of the two units, which were in the fleet of German owner Carsten Rehder.
