Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) are seen to be leading the G6 alliance in ordering ultra-large boxship newbuildings.

Sources say up to 12 units will be booked by the two companies, with OOCL going for eight ships of 18,000 teu and MOL targeting four vessels of 20,000 teu. Yard officials confirm they have received newbuilding enquiries from the two companies but decline to disclose any further information.
