As another new low in recent iron ore prices was reached earlier this month, there are clear signs the big four producers are succeeding in pricing the competition out of the market by increasing supply.
But, while the demise of high-cost local suppliers should support the long-haul iron ore trade, so far there is little sign that the low price environment is stimulating shipping demand.
