Mumbai-based sources say it is in talks with Singapore-based Swiber Holdings to acquire up to four 3,000-dwt platform-supply vessels (PSVs).

Top Mercator officials confirm it is looking to build an offshore fleet but decline to reveal details.

Sources say the company is said to be eyeing a long-term contract with state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) for the proposed acquisitions.

Mercator has already cut its teeth in the Indian offshore sector after it grabbed a contract from ONGC in 2011 to convert the 250-feet rig Sagar Samrat (built 1973) into a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU).
