West African producer Nigeria LNG (NLNG) has launched a parallel pair of tenders with the aim of chartering in a raft of modern cheaper-to-run LNG carriers and selling off six project vessels that are now 30 years old or more.

Brokers and owners explain that NLNG is keen to sell off its older, small and less-efficient ships that consume almost twice the amount of bunkers as their modern cousins and replace the expensive time-charter tonnage it took on three years ago when rates were running at six-figure record highs.
