Dutch salvage firm Smit Salvage won a Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) contract to assist the vessel, according to reports from the Lloyd’s insurance market.
The 176,000-dwt, Italian-flag bulker, which was carrying an iron ore cargo loaded at Buchanan, Liberia, and heading for China, has suffered hull damage.
The Naples-based owner says the crew and ship are safe and there are no indications as to what caused the hull damage as there were no rocks or reefs shown in the area.
