Lift boats are self-propelled vessels with large heavylift cranes and sizeable accommodation that use dynamic-positioning (DP) systems to station themselves next to rigs and other offshore structures while heavy work is undertaken.
Harald Paulsen Lovik, general manager of Fearnleys Offshore Supply Asia, notes that lift boats have gradually been moving to the region and such units are now based in offshore oilfields in Bruneian and Malaysian waters.
