Chinese privately owned dry bulk player Shagang Shipping is being sued in a New South Wales federal court for the alleged false arrest of a capesize earlier this year in Australia.
The lawsuit by a Hong Kong party called Fuk Hing Steamship Co follows threats of retaliation by Shagang’s long-time legal adversary, HNA Group.
Several shipowners have large, still-unresolved charter default claims against Grand China Logistics or other HNA Group companies, including Hong Kong’s Jinhui Shipping and Norway’s Spar Shipping but Shagang is probably the most aggressive claimant.
