JoAnn Gilmore lodged the case in the US federal court in Tampa over the death of Hercules Gilmore Jr as he helped unload the 47,200-dwt Honesty Ocean (built 1997) in October 2012.
Gilmore was crushed when a sling failed while lifting a steel pipe cargo that was being discharged from the vessel, dropping the cargo into the hold, according to the case filed by law firm Banker Lopez Gassler.
