State-owned Shipping Corp of India (SCI) is looking to start afresh on expanding its fleet even though the company is facing a tough road ahead.

India’s leading shipowner has suffered a run of losses in the past three years but it is now attempting to reinvent itself as it aims to weather the headwinds in an oversupplied global shipping market.

The company has cancelled a big chunk of its newbuilding contracts in the past year, as well as backtracking on joint ventures (see story, below).
