Andreas Nordseth began his career in shipping as a mess boy at sea and eventually made it to the position of deck officer. Around 40 years after first going to sea, he is now head of the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) and is standing in the election to become the next secretary-general of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

If wide-ranging, hands-on experience of the shipping industry is a key credential for the job then he has plenty.
