Several owners of Jones Act-compliant ships have made the leap into LNG fuelling and more are expected to follow.

The likes of containership and ro-ro owner Tote Inc, offshore vessel owner Harvey Gulf International Marine and Crowley Maritime, which has elected LNG power for its conro newbuildings, are all leading a charge that is expected to snowball.

“There is no doubt in my mind, if we look 10 years into the future, LNG is going to be the predominant marine fuel,” said Anthony Chiarello, chief executive at Tote.
