Container freight rates on the transpacific trade have been hit with a massive port congestion surcharge.

Fifteen lines operating between Asia and the US West Coast (USWC) are imposing a surcharge equal to 50% of spot rates to cover the cost of congestion.

Coming in at $1,000 per 40-ft container (feu), the surcharge to be imposed this week is being blamed on labour-related terminal delays.
