The seemingly perennial debate over the benefits and drawbacks of the US Jones Act cabotage law has made its way into another fight over US trade law: the tug-of-war over proposals to lift the country’s ban on exports of crude oil.
Refiners have long resisted lifting the prohibition on shipping out US crude, although the export of oil from Alaska’s North Slope is allowed, as the abundance of domestic crude has helped keep input prices down.
