An alliance with European companies and the new sulphur Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations in Northern Europe and North America have prompted Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding to start constructing dual-fuel boxships — the first Chinese yard to do so.

The shipbuilder has secured orders for up to six dual-fuel newbuildings from Guoyu Nordic Shipping (GNS), a joint venture between Guoyu Group (Hong Kong) Co, a sister company of the yard, and German owner Nordic Hamburg (NHS).
