Vessel sales are ringing up profits for beleaguered Japanese shipowner Daiichi Chuo Kisen but the company suffered a sudden share-price setback after a leading shareholder reduced its stake.

Daiichi says the sale of the 208,000-dwt capesize First Ibis (built 2010), earlier reported by TradeWinds, will earn the company ¥1.128bn ($9.6m) in extraordinary profit.
