Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has secured suezmax newbuilding orders worth almost $1bn this year, following its latest contract with Nordic American Tankers (NAT).
New York-listed NAT broke a newbuilding duck going back over four-and-a-half years when it revealed a deal for two 158,000-dwt vessels at the South Korean yard this week.
NAT will pay $65m for each of the tankers, which strengthen Sungdong’s dominant position in the red-hot suezmax market this year.
