Sonangol pays top dollar for DSME suezmax duo

Angolan state oil company splashes out $70m apiece on the pair, some $5m more than last order at compatriot yard

Sonangol is believed to be paying as much as $70m for each of two suezmax tankers ordered at South Korea’s DSME due to the Angolan state oil company’s policy of going for high-specification ships.

TradeWinds broke news of Sonangol’s order in October, which the company confirmed this week.

Last week, US-listed Nordic American Tankers (NAT) reported an order for two suezmaxes at Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Korea at $65m each.
