In March 2015, it is expected to be Captain Panagiotis Tsakos, the patriarch and founder of Greece’s Tsakos Group.

The Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) was poised to name Tsakos as its next commodore this week.

That means Scorpio Group president Robert Bugbee, the current commodore, will likely hand over the oversize headgear when Tsakos receives the annual honour.

“Captain Tsakos has been a shipping industry force for decades, positively impacting the world through trade, support of the seafaring community through countless training and employment initiatives, a capital markets pioneer, a thoughtful designer of ships and an enormously generous supporter of causes in support of people, the environment and education around the world,” said CMA president Ian Workman in a message to past commodores.
