The port of Genoa is hoping to become a European recycling centre after it completes the job of dismantling the giant wreck of the cruiseship Costa Concordia.

Officials from Italian classification society Rina say they audited the site for compliance with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (Hong Kong Convention) and European Regulation on Ship Recycling as part of the tender process for the job.
