An affiliate of Louisiana-based tug company Falgout Brothers launched the case in the US federal court in Louisiana over the 675-gt Zion Falgout (built 1979).
The vessel’s one-ship owner, Zion Falgout LLC, says in court papers that it paid just $525,000 to buy the vessel as the OSG Freedom in 2013 but repairs are expected to exceed $1m.
It was not until the vessel was delivered to its new owner that Falgout transport arm Global Towing Services discovered that it was coated with lead paint.
