The charter market is witnessing a sudden surge of interest for larger vessels, with lines snapping up post-panamaxes after a lull of several months.

Three 9,000-teu and two 6,700-teu ships under construction for Greek owner Technomar have been taken long-term by Chinese operator Cosco and United Arab Shipping Co (UASC).

Two of the 9,000-teu units have been taken by Cosco at around $40,000 per day for periods of at least five years, say brokers.
