Secondhand prices for dry bulk ships plunged to new depths this week but may have to fall even further to stimulate sluggish sale-and-purchase (S&P) activity, say brokers.

Prices have dropped particularly strongly in the smaller segments — handysizes and handymaxes — with a 10-year-old, 32,000-dwt ship fetching an average of $10m, down from $12.5m in the previous week, according to figures provided by Clarksons.
