The outspoken Benoit Timmermans, head of Belgium’s Bocimar, is reacting negatively to owners who are increasingly locking capesize tonnage into period charters involving index-linked rates.
“An owner should be sitting in the driving seat and not be giving away the key to the car,” Timmermans said.
Such deals have increasingly become the choice of owners facing a very difficult market.
