Officials at Chennai-based Poompuhar say it has plans to charter three ships of between 40,000 dwt and 60,000 dwt by the end of February for coal transport.

The company aims to fix one ship for up to three years, with the other two taken for three months with an option for a further three months.

All three vessels will be employed to carry both imported and domestic coal for state-owned utilities in Tamil Nadu province.
