Soundview Maritime has purchased its largest ever vessel.

The US private-equity-backed buyer has snapped up the 3,534-teu Helena Schulte (built 2006) for around $14m, say brokers.

The deal points to a sharp rise in values for vessels in this category, where buyers including CMB and Sinokor have been blamed for driving up prices.

To date, Soundview has focused on smaller vessels of between 1,100 teu and 2,800 teu, including the purchase of the 2,732-teu Antje Wulff (renamed CMA CGM Montreal, built 2002) at the end of last year for a reported $7.5m.
