Sources say the 180,000-dwt SBI Puro will be delivered from China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) for a 10-month to 12-month time charter.
The ship, Hull No 1309 at SWS, is entering a very weak bulker market where owners are struggling to cover operating costs.
The rate is reported to be $13,800 per day, considered fair at the moment but poor considering that Scorpio paid a massive $57m for the ship as a resale from Cargill in December 2013.
