Esco filed for a Chapter 11 restructuring in the US Bankruptcy Court in Corpus Christi, Texas, on 7 March after shutting its Brownsville facility and laying off 200 employees.

Canadian financial firm Callidus Capital — which was already locked in a dispute with the demolition yard over an alleged default on $31.4m in debt — followed with a potential offer of cash but with significant strings attached.
