Commercial competition rather than groundings, collisions, fires or other traditional perils of the sea is now the top risk factor facing the world shipping industry, according to the big Allianz insurance group.
Increasing ship size not only poses obvious threats, such as a casualty involving a mega containership, but a wider systemic danger that has led to Allianz warning that intensification of competition is a “double-edged sword”.
