SteelShips, which maintains offices in Piraeus and New York, is said to have acquired the 45,600-dwt Valopoula (built 2000) from compatriot Petrofin Ship Management.

The company reportedly paid $6.1m for the Tsuneishi Cebu-built bulker, which is due for its third special survey. Petrofin bought the ship as Pacific Trader for a whopping $59m in May 2008.

The question is, however, whether the sale means that bulker prices are close to bottom levels.
