UASC goes for global expansion as it awaits delivery of box giant

Growth on the cards as Dubai-based line seeks to shake off regional carrier tag

United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) has no choice but to fulfil its goal of becoming an “emerging global carrier”, a senior executive believes.

The shipowner’s global ambitions take a symbolic step forward next month with the delivery of the 18,800-teu UASC Barzan, one of the largest containerships in the world. The vessel strengthens the carrier’s position in the Asia-to-Europe trades, and follows expansion of UASC’s services in the north-south trades and its debut in the Atlantic trades.
