Cold-weather specialist Viking Supply Ships has scored a new ice-related charter this week estimated at more than $100,000 per day.

The new deal underlines how highly specialised, niche-market operations have the potential to show their value during the wider market downturn for offshore support vessels (OSVs).

Viking says it has received confirmation of its charterer’s decision to take the last option on the 18,300-bhp anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel Vidar Viking (built 2001), which is a KMAR 808 design rated with a bollard pull of 202 tons.
