The steelmaker will spend $61.25m on 10 mini-bulkers of 8,000 dwt at Chittagong-based Western Marine Shipyard. Six will be delivered within 24 months and the remainder after assessing the success of the first ships in the series.

According to Western Marine managing director Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, the newbuilding contract marks a huge boost for the yard and Bangladesh’s maritime industry.
