The small passenger liner Hakon Jarl (built 1952) was a popular ship during the 30 years it plied the coast of Norway as part of the Hurtigruten fleet.

After that chapter of its life closed, it became equally popular with residents and visitors of Oslo when it served as a floating hotel. Its bar and restaurants were especially liked by the local shipping fraternity who enjoyed the nautical ambience

The Hakon Jarl moved to Antwerp in 1991 and operated in much the same manner as it did during its time in Oslo, although then under the unofficial name Diamond Princess.
