Shipping has emerged from the United Nations (UN) climate change talks in Paris with some of what it wanted.

It has certainly escaped any of the draconian curbs that doom mongers had feared.

Indeed, shipping was not even mentioned in the final text of the agreement and there is no overall target for its carbon-dioxide (CO2) output.

But neither is there total clarity about whether the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is in full charge of any future agenda.
