According to officials at the Chittagong-based company, Dhaka last week gave the go ahead to its plan to acquire a secondhand tanker of between 25,000 dwt and 34,000 dwt earmarked for coastal trading of petroleum products.

Last November, the prime minister’s office rejected BSC’s plan, citing national procurement rules that make it mandatory for BSC to acquire newbuildings or resales.

However, officials say the government has asked the company to consider modern tonnage under five years old.
