SPIL purchased the 1,133-teu Silver Fern (built 1996) for an undisclosed amount.
The vessel, which TradeWinds understands was available promptly, has been delivered to SPIL and is set to begin trading under the name Oriental Gold.
SPIL has been an aggressive buyer of feederships in recent years as it takes advantage of low prices to expand and modernise its fleet, which now comprises 70 ships.
