Teekay Corp originally contracted the vessels through subsidiary company ALP Maritime Services at Niigata Shipbuilding, a small shipyard located in northern Japan.
The first of the 24,473-bhp ships was to be delivered at the start of 2016 with all four vessels handed over by the end of this year.
However, in a statement, MES said Niigata was struggling to complete the order and it would be offering full technical manpower support to the yard in a bid to complete the ships.
