A decade ago, Ole Wikborg, of the Norwegian Hull Club — the then chairman of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) ocean hull committee but later a chairman of Cefor and IUMI president — voiced concern about the quality of newbuildings coming out of China, while underwriters were regaled with horror stories of malpractices at IUMI’s 2008 conference in Vancouver.
