It was agreed at last week’s Maritime Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting that all ships above 5,000 gross tons (gt) would provide information on carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions to their flag states.
Under the proposed global system, individual ship information will not be made public and shipowners will not have to disclose information on cargoes carried — something they argue is commercially sensitive and could potentially affect the market.
