The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) — representing shipowner associations around the world — was reacting to the January ruling that the ship’s master and owner’s misconduct deprived the owner of a right to limit liability under the 1992 Civil Liability Convention (CLC).

The Spanish Supreme Court overturned an earlier lower court ruling and gave ship’s master Apostolos Mangouras a two-year suspended sentence for his role in the casualty.
