More neo-panamax containerships — or post-panamaxes up to 13,000 teu as they were previously known — have reserved transits through the expanded Panama Canal.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) says that “more than 100 neo-panamax ships have already made reservations for commercial passage through the new locks, which will begin on 27 June, following the historic inauguration”.

The move is seen as evidence of the willingness of lines to ditch conventional panamax containerships and upsize to the larger and more efficient vessels.
