Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co is to build a cruiseship at its Tsuneishi Zoushan facility in China as it seeks a way out of the depressed dry bulk market.

The move comes amid a boom in cruiseship ordering during the past year and a lack of delivery slots for newbuildings before 2024 among the main European cruise yards.

The shortage of cruise shipbuilding capacity was a significant factor in Hong Kong-based Genting Group acquiring Germany’s Lloyd Werft and Nordic Yards last year.
