The ship is due for prompt delivery from China’s Yangfan Group. Sources have suggested the owner is looking to sell it but this is denied by Lucio Bonaso, chief executive of D’Amico’s dry cargo department.

D’Amico was said to have paid $25m for the Medi Zhoushan in August 2013 but it is now probably worth only $16m.

Earlier this month, the owner sold the 53,000-dwt bulker Medi Nagasaki (built 2003) to a Greek buyer for $4.6m.
